St. Hannibal Empowerment Centre

St. Hannibal Empowerment Center (SHEC) is a religious organization of the Rogationists of the Heart of Jesus. It is a community of Spirit-led persons which aims to follow Jesus Christ in his union with his Father and in his proclamation of the kingdom of God. It is an inserted community among the squatters. The goal of SHEC is to empower the poor people of Metro Manila, Philippines, through housing, livelihood, education, health, waste management, youth and values formation.

Mission: Its mission is to empower the poorest of the poor and catalyze an integral Christian transformation of urban poor communities in collaboration with the local Church by a holistic process that addresses concerns on housing, livelihood, education, health, environment and sanitation, justice and peace, youth formation and values formation. The goals of SHEC consist of assisting in alleviating poverty among urban poor communities in Pasay and other cities in Metro Manila; and building the foundation of community transformation through intensive values formation. Its objectives are, specifically, to facilitate the organization and formation of people’s organization that are self-sufficient and empowered, facilitate the values and spiritual formation and capability building of urban poor leaders, to assist the urban poor / informal settlers of Pasay and other cities in Metro Manila in realizing their dreams of achieving security of tenure through in-city relocation, to facilitate the implementation of economic programs and basic social services in urban poor communities, and to facilitate access to formal education in favor of the poor and deserving students.

DECEMBER HIGHLIGHTS

SHEC welcomes December 2010 with renewed faith and hope with Jesus whose Kingdom mission SHEC shares and continues. Jesus was born for this mission (see ), and so was SHEC. Christmas then takes a most profound meaning once it is seen in the context of the Kingdom of God; and this is what SHEC strives to proclaim, especially with the least, the anawim whom God loves in a very special way. Indeed, God’s wonders never cease! He can never be outdone in generosity. And truly, December has witnessed the outpouring of blessings upon SHEC.

December 20 double treat: Eco-Retreat Center and Almost Heaven Retreat Center.
Last December 20, 2010, the deed of donation for the Eco-Retreat Center at Sitio Maramo, San Mateo, Bulacan was signed by Captain Benhur Gomez.
At the same day, the deed of donation for the Almost Heaven Retreat Center at Banaue, Ifugao was signed by Hon. And Mrs. Gualberto Lumauig. For both deeds of donation, the Rogationists were represented by Father General Angelo Mezzari, Vicar General Fr. Bruno Rampazzo, Fr. Jessie Martirizar, Fr. Dexter Prudenciano, Fr. Orville cajigal and Rev. Arlene Gumangan.
The Rogationist fathers afterwards paid a visit to His Eminence Gaudencio Cardinal Rosales.




Musical play for the Kingdom.
To proclaim the essence of Christmas, and to raise funds for the empowerment of the poor, the Essentials Choir of SHEC showcased their multiple talents in a musical play which portrayed Kingdom values as contextualized in the general setting of today’s Filipino families. The successful project was shown at Aritao, Nueva Viscaya last December 29, 2010. The play was written and directed by Fr. Dexter Prudenciano, RCJ and. The actors/singers were Lynly Lacdang, Evangeline Lacdang, Richard Domanico, Mikki Macabenta and the Members of Essentials Choir.
