St. Hannibal Empowerment Centre

St. Hannibal Empowerment Center (SHEC) is a religious organization of the Rogationists of the Heart of Jesus. It is a community of Spirit-led persons which aims to follow Jesus Christ in his union with his Father and in his proclamation of the kingdom of God. It is an inserted community among the squatters. The goal of SHEC is to empower the poor people of Metro Manila, Philippines, through housing, livelihood, education, health, waste management, youth and values formation.

Mission: Its mission is to empower the poorest of the poor and catalyze an integral Christian transformation of urban poor communities in collaboration with the local Church by a holistic process that addresses concerns on housing, livelihood, education, health, environment and sanitation, justice and peace, youth formation and values formation. The goals of SHEC consist of assisting in alleviating poverty among urban poor communities in Pasay and other cities in Metro Manila; and building the foundation of community transformation through intensive values formation. Its objectives are, specifically, to facilitate the organization and formation of people’s organization that are self-sufficient and empowered, facilitate the values and spiritual formation and capability building of urban poor leaders, to assist the urban poor / informal settlers of Pasay and other cities in Metro Manila in realizing their dreams of achieving security of tenure through in-city relocation, to facilitate the implementation of economic programs and basic social services in urban poor communities, and to facilitate access to formal education in favor of the poor and deserving students.

MARCH 2011 HIGHLIGHTS
God’s wonders never cease! The month of March is indeed a vibrant march towards the Kingdom due to the many blessings bestowed upon SHEC and the poor communities it serves.

Work Plan Finalized.
Meeting under God’s guidance has always been effective. This is so, indeed, as experienced by the group of Fr. Orville Cajigal, RCJ as they met to finalize their work plan for 2011 in the atmosphere of a recollection held last March 12, 2011 at the St. Hannibal Eco-Retreat Center, Norzagaray Bulacan. The following participated in the activity: Cristy Lingayon, Nelyn Balbalosa, Flora Loreto, Linda Wong, Gemma Ortega, Merlyn Lucabo, Luisa Abanilla, Nila Andrade, Mercy Gerandio, Jocelyn Velasco, Marilou Tatardillo, Denia Lisay and Mary Anne Merelos .

Children’s Ministry Goes Party-Party.
Ministers who are happy with each other’s company could serve better especially amidst taxing Kingdom works. Accordingly, to strengthen their bond as well as to showcase their talents, the members of the Children’s ministry threw a party for the birthday celebrators of the months of January, February and March. The event organized by Ruthelia Valmoria was held last March 1
9, 2011 at the St. Hannibal Training Center.

SHaCC and Pabanal Conduct Evaluation and Planning Session.
As they march towards their goal, the fullness of life in the Kingdom of God, the management of SHEC led by Fr. Dexter Prudenciano, RCJ and the officers of SHaCC and Pabanal revisited their Kingdom journey in view of planning for more effective programs. The event was held at the Rogationist College, Paranaque City last March 20, 2011.
Happy Birthday, Fr. Orville.
In a celebration which began with the Holy Eucharist, SHEC staff and volunteers rejoiced with Fr. Orville and were one with him in thanking God for the gift of life last March 22, 2011. Indeed, the birth of a dedicated Kingdom apostle is a cause of great jubilation. This grace-filled event took place at the St. Hannibal Training Center.

UN-Habitat and CDIA Visit SHEC.
Last March 23, 2011, George Espin facilitated the orientation and tour of visitors from the UN-Habitat together with the Cities Development Initiative for Asia Incorporated (CDIA) who wanted to know more about SHEC’s housing projects. SHEC’s growing network is indeed a sign that the mustard seed is growing into a big tree. Kudos for marching vibrantly towards the Kingdom!

MyDee Merchandising Donates Livelihood Showcase.
Empowering the poor is a way of letting the poor know and feel that they are dignified. To help SHEC realize this goal, MyDee Merchandising donated a livelihood showcase for SHEC, SHaCC and PABaNAL. The showcase was delivered at the St. Hannibal Training Center last March 30, 2011.

George and Gil Meet With HLURB.
Last March 30, 2011 George Espin and Gil Giolagon had a consultation meeting with authorities of the Housing and Land Use Regulatory Board regarding the implementing rules and regulation of RA 9904. The meeting was held at Las Pinas City.
